We were created to worship the true and living God. But if we are not careful, we can give our deepest devotion to what He created—or even to what we have made with the gifts He gave us.
As a musician, I love the sound of a saxophone. I value the instrument, the music, and the opportunities that come through it. But the instrument cannot give me life, and the gift is not greater than the Giver. My music is a tool I can use to honor God; it was never meant to take His place.
That principle reaches beyond music. A business, a platform, technology, money, or a creative idea can be useful. The question is whether I am using it with gratitude and purpose, or looking to it for the security, identity, and devotion that belong to God.
Scripture gives us a clear distinction:
“Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.”
Romans 1:25 (KJV)
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”
Revelation 4:11 (KJV)
“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10:31 (KJV)
I choose to worship the Creator—the source of it all—and use His gifts and the tools in my hands to bring Him glory.
A question for the journey: Am I grateful for the gift while keeping my heart devoted to the One who gave it?
